Soldier says state has returned disputed child support money
Army Sgt. Joshua Hinkle tells the I-Team he received $2,000 back from the Illinois Department of Healthcare and Family Services, which was part of a disputed child support tab. On June 19, 2008, Hinkle’s bank account balance of $4,268.59 was frozen. Child support officials said they did not know Sgt. Hinkle was stationed in Iraq when they put a lien on his bank account for past due payments. Hinkle was told the money would be frozen for 180 days or until the issue was resolved, whichever came first.
The Quad Cities native told us in an email from Iraq that he was informed by the Division of Child Support Enforcement that his bank account would not be frozen again while he is deployed. Hinkle disputes how much he owes in past due child support for his two children and plans to go to court when he returns from Iraq in six weeks
