Depostitions Limited to Three Hours
Supreme Court Rule 206(d) states that discovery depositions are limited to three hours in duration. The limit is cumulative so that a deposition can reconvene at a later time with the total time not to exceed three hours. This limitation can be extended by agreement of the parties or by a court order upon a showing of good cause. The limitation includes time for objections and examination of the deponent by the party who has not noticed the deposition.
In order to eliminate lengthly objections, Supreme Court Rule 206(c)(3) mandates that objections shall state the exact legal nature of the objection concisely. Note that the three hour limitation does not apply to evidence depostitions.
